The Tatti's gratefully accepted the two points gifted to them by Woodpeckers at the Hereford Bowling Club. After three legs of 83 the home side needed just 71 to win on their final leg but they fell two pins short with a dire 69 to finish. The Bogoes won 319-318.
To be fair, the plastic pins played a huge part in the outcome of this match, their shape being completely incompatible with the size of a skittle ball. Players have to rely on luck to achieve a decent fall from the front pin so, it's no surprise to see the lack of consistency of good scores resulting in poor leg totals.
Well done Vorni for taking his second single pin chance in two games and hat's off to Boundy for his excellent top score with 32 without a spare.
Congratulations to debut boy Dale, particularly that last leg 9 which, along with Boundy's 9 & Vorni's 11, turned out to be absolutely crucial for the victory. By the way, the game of skittles isn't normally this poor!
"WOW !! And HOW ?? Woodpeckers looked for all the money that they’d register a third consecutive victory over us, after last season completely the double, and with three 83 legs were well in control especially has we struggled to a second leg of 70 !! A decent last leg of 83 which included our only spare of the night, a brilliant taken chance by Vorni (11) still left us feeling oh well damage was done with that 70. However to our amazement 15 minutes later when some of the home side returned from the alley they said they’d failed to get the 71 to win and the game had ended in a draw. Unbelievable, but then on a recount of the scores by the Woodpecker lads it turned out that we’d won by 1 !! Unreal but we’ll take that. Boundy stood out with top score an excellent 32 on there and also to debutant Dale who settled in well on what is notoriously a difficult alley"
