Despite losing, the Bogoes were more than satisfied with their own performance after scoring 22 more pins than they did in this fixture last season when they won by ten.
The Tatti's fought back well from an opening leg defecit of eight pins to lead by four, after three legs apiece, mainly thanks to a couple of really good spares by Captain Ali and Turps. The lack of spare opportunities in their final leg seemed to be heading towards a mediocre total in the low 80's until Rusty finished proceedings with a superb 17. It surged the leg into the 90's leaving the Con Men a huge 98 to win.
A big ask then and their task soon became even tougher when they started with a four however, they were virtually faultless after that. With five nine's, an eight, three seven's, a six and a briliant 16 spare, they chalked up a massive 100 to win the game by three. Hat's off to them, they fully deserved their victory after that leg, especially as their week had sadly begun with the funeral of one of their long standing players, John Wear.
John was also a very good friend and team mate to quite a few of the Tattibogoes players who'd played bowls with him for many years. John will be remembered as a softly spoken, kind and generous man, but also a fierce competitor in both sports. He enjoyed a lot of success at bowls, winning many county competitions and qualifying for the National finals numerous times. He played for Herefordshire BA 212 times and is second only to the Tatti's Phil Holland with 76 appearances in Hereford's prestigeous Middleton Cup team (Phil has 79). RIP John.
