26th January 24 v Harry's Lads (H) Won 374-367

The Tatti's were victorious in their first home game at the Military Club, beating close title challengers Harry's Lads by 7 pins, 374-367.

It was an enthralling match that could have gone either way. Booby was fast out of the blocks again with a good 12 spare but the rest of the team struggled to get going at their new home. A sub 90 opener gave Harry's the chance to put the pressure on & to nobody's surprise, they did exactly that. Two legs containing 14 spares in each meant that the Bogoes returned facing 98 to level.

A sub 40 bottom half in the second leg did little to inspire a fight back but, Booby ended the top half scoring by repeating his first leg effort it give them some hope. So, eight pins behind at half way, Booby hat-trick never materialised and Berti missed a single pin chance, but the top half then kicked into another gear. Rusty felled a great 14 before Cheeso stepped it up with a brilliant 17, his spare ball almost being a flopper. Captain Ali then cleared the frame to record a huge 62 total. The bottom halfer's took the third leg into the 100's to leave Harry's Lads 92 to level.

As expected, they didn't lie down. Despite an 86 third leg they finished the night with an excellent 97 thanks to two spares and every other effort being 6 or more.

So, into the final leg, the Tatti's needed 88 to win. Starting with a 6 & a 5 made the challenge a little harder but Boundy's 10 spare gave the bottom half their best leg total of the night. The call was for five 7's and an 8 to win. Ali, Cheeso & Turps kept them on target and so two 7's & an 8 were required when Rusty took to the alley for his final go.

With the result of the game hanging on a knife edge, Harry's Lads players crowded the Military Club Foyer to watch Rusty produce his best. Six pins down after striking the front pin, boom, he dispatched the remaining three pins with a perfect ball. Then, thirty seconds later, Joe having reset the pins in quick order, boom again, Rusty felled five more pins to secure another two vital points in their race for the title.

It has to be said, both teams played their part to produce an excellent a game of skittles.

"Excellent win against second in the table Harry’s Lads. Another spare start from Rob but unlike the last home the rest didn’t muster much to record a disappointing opening leg of 86. Two good legs by our opponents left us a big 90 to catch and it was left the Rob again to keep us in the game with an excellent 12. Two brilliant spares by the Russ’s 14 and 17 helped us chalk up a third leg of 104 which meant it really was game on and with Harry’s only scoring 86 on their third we somehow found ourselves 10 up!! However their brilliant last leg of 97 left us a very challenging 88 to win and although Boundys' spare gave us a chance it was rusty who helped the team secure the win with an excellent 14. This helped him to the top score accolade with a brilliant 44, pipping cheese who scored an excellent 40 and Fafs good 38"

19th January 24 v Evans SC (A) Won 356-330

The Tatti's recovery in form continued with a good 26 pins victory over Evans SC at the Bowling Club, 356-330.

Captain's comment:

"Another eagerly anticipated match against our old rival’s Evans, a game both sides felt they had to win on the notoriously difficult bowling club alley !!

The home side’s average first leg gave us the impetus to post two decent legs and we did that with good spares from griff, Liam and captain Ali  (leave it Ronnie!!).

Evans will feel they let us off. 10 down at the midway point, 40 for 4 on the third should really have set us a bigger total to chase when we returned to the alley and with excellent spares by Griff again, and Boundy, we posted a 102 third leg which proved decisive.

Another excellent team performance, well done Griff, top scoring with a fantastic total of 42 (should play with toothache more often !!)

On to next week now, another massive game, our first at our new home, well done boys"

12th January 24 v Military 'D' (H) Won 375-332

Moving to a temporary home for one game seems the way to go as the Tatti's crushed Military 'D'  by 43 pins at the Richmond Club, 375-332.

Two excellent spares right from the off, by Booby & Berti, set the tone for a very successful evening with all four legs in the ninety's. By contrast, the highest leg by the D's was a couple shy of ninety despite two of their players felling spares.

A late seventeen spare by TK Maxx surged his score up to a very good 38 however, it was Booby who shined the most with an excellent 43 total.

So, two points in the bag, and the cigar lit, the Bogoes now move on to a different alley for their next home match in two weeks time.

Which venue I hear you ask. Well, wherever Captain Ali decides to lay his hat!

Captains' comment: "New year, new home alley and when Rob flopped them for a fantastic 18 to start proceedings which was immediately followed by Ian’s 13 spare the muttering were can we stay here !!

A brilliant opening leg of 99 set us on our way and after two legs we were well in control of the game against a surprisingly below par performance from Military D.

All round excellent team performance and two more points with Faf top scoring with an excellent 43. A brilliant flopper 17 for Liam on the last leg will hopefully kick start his season.

Well done boys move on to next week now!!"

5th Jan 24 v Beevers (A) Won 369-349

Following a poor run of results, the festive break arrived at a good time for the Tatti's and, although nowhere near back to their best, their first performance in 2024 was enough to beat Beevers by 20 pins at the Richmond Club, 369-349.

Earlier in the day, Berti suffered a sudden back strain so rendering him unfit to play. However, this gave an opportunity for Turps to step in & he took his chance to shine at the very first attempt.
Driving the Tatti's on with a superbly taken 13 spare in the opening leg, he then ended the night as he'd begun it, by felling another crucial spare, this time a brilliant 15, which helped to set Beevers an unreachable target of 99.

Jonah & Boundy also weighed in with 15 spares of their own, Jonah ending with a good 35 & Boundy matching Turps with a great total of 39. Did anyone mention Vorni?

But, it was Captain Ali who grabbed the limelight all for himself. It's the fourth time he's done so this season & 118th time in his career. Quick out of the starting blocks with 11 & 16 spares, he surpassed the magical 40 by two more pins with solid efforts of 7 & 8.

"With all the pre match talk being all about being made “homeless” we soon tuned in to what was a must win game.
Good spares by Turps, The captain and Jonah put us in a good position at the halfway point and with Beevers poor 3rd leg the win was there for the taking !!
Some shocking skittling on the last two legs was only rescued by two players who did a “Vorni” and thanks to these two, Turps and the Bound, both getting excellent 15 spares the 99 we left the home side was more than enough. Excellent much needed win, we move on to another big game next week!!
Footnote, no Ian Collins tonight, heard a rumour he was protecting his averages !!!"
