27th January 23 v Buccaneers (H) Won 357-345

The Tatti's claimed two more points towards their goal of retaining the league title with a 12 pins victory over Buccaneers at the Q Club, 357-345.

This was a strange game. At times the Bogoes threatened to run away with it but, with eight glorious spare chances, six single pins and four two pins, all missed, it became a struggle.

Fortunately, after their good opening leg, Buccaneers dropped off the scoring so when the Tatti's came to the final leg they just needed 79 to win. On a normal night this would be a formality however, the realisation that this wasn't a normal night soon dawned on the players when Prycer, Jonah & Turps managed to score just 11 pins between them. The remaining players now required five 8's & four 7's and, in keeping with the flow of the game, the TK, Benny, Boundy & Ali rallied with two 8's & two 9's, to ease the pressure.

All good then, back on track, just four 7's would leave Rusty a 6 to claim victory and the applause. Well, not quite, Cheeso, Westy, Vorni & Booby decided an alternative end plan would be much more exciting to make Rusty's 6 a mere formality to finish proceedings.

20th January 23 v Military 'D' (A) Won 355-323

A good away effort at the Military Club, spearheaded by a superb performance by Captain Ali, was more than enough to overcome their opponents Military 'D', winning by 32 pins, 355-323.

Birthday boy Vorni flew out of the blocks, his first ball flopper set the team on the way with a 14 spare. He added another spare later on in the third leg but, despite this, his total fell three pins short of his captain who took the limelight with a Vorni 39.

Bob Taylor

The Tattibogoes were shocked to hear the awful news that Bob Taylor had suddenly passed away just a few days after last weeks' match against Evans SC.

Bob was well liked and respected by us all and, it goes without saying, that he was a brilliant skittler.

Just looking back at Bobs' record against us over the years proves this but, he was also someone we looked up to and admired. He was a great competitor and, for those of us who were fortunate enough to play in the same team with him at County level, a highly valued team mate.

He will be remembered fondly and sorely missed during our future matches with Evans SC.

Our thought are with Bobs' family & his team mates at this very sad time.

RIP Bob.

13th January 23 v Harry's Lads (H) Won 397-378

The Tatti's celebrated another fantastic victory by achieving their highest ever score against Harry's Lads, winning by 19 pins at the Q Club (Snooker Centre), 397-378.

A blistering second leg of 111, containing a hat-trick of spares by Boundy, Ali & Turps, was the defining moment in the match and gave the Bogoes a 22 pins cushion at the half-way point. Credit to Harry's Lad's, they never gave up and went on to record their highest score at the Snooker Centre against the Tatti's

You don't see an eight of the quarter very often but, when it arrives you have to take full advantage of the good fortune and, that is exactly what Boundy did when he was graced by Lady Luck. He calmly dispatched the solitary front pin with his next ball & with another spare later he recorded his best of the season with 45.

Berti joined Boundy in the 40's however, it was Captain Ali who took all the plaudits. On the final leg,  a fabulous personal performance was complete when he floored a second brilliant 17 spare to surge his total into the 50's again. Ali last achieved this feat on 7th February 2014 when he scored 52 in a home match at the Plough Inn against Richmond Lions (9, 16, 18, 9).

This was the 49th clash between the two teams and Ali's 50 equalled their best individual players score against Harry's Lads. He matched the efforts of Stuee Griff who achieved this feat on 18th March 2011, in a home fixture at the Lads Club. As it happens, Berti has played in all 49 and, incidentally, he also scored 40 in the previous games when Ali & Stuee got their 50's.

6th January 23 v Evans SC (A) Won 370-300

The Tatti's returned to action from the festive break hungry to resume the defence of their championship. Stood in their way was Evans SC, historically, the team who have been their main challengers over the years.

Having won the home game against Evans, in their final match of 2022, the Bogoes were also looking for do the double over them for the 6th time.

I doubt many will know that this is the 69th competitive match between the two teams and, going into the game, despite trailing 32-36, Evans held the lead in the pins count by15 pins (22,393-22,378).

Anyway, on to this game, the Tatti's were well in the zone and soon turned that statistic in their favour, with an emphatic 70 pins victory.

They were 'at it' from the off with Booby flooring an excellent 13 spare. Some great skittling followed and it could've been even better if Liam hadn't suffered the misfortune of seeing his spare ball sail straight through the gap between the pins.

And, it got better, the second leg could easily have been 100+. Cheeso was on fire with a superb 14 and, prior to that, Boundy was very unlucky not to get a spare as he watched the middle pin rocking side-to-side but, somehow it remained standing whist the rest of the pins all fell down. Not to be too disappointed, he duly dispatched it with his final delivery to chants of 'Lets all have a disco'.

They eased off slightly during the third leg but, maintaining the consistency the leg total of 87 served to increase the lead further. Such was the scale of this performance, in previous matches at the Volly, this would be a fantastic score so, Stuee Griff was more than pleased to chalk it up.

As if that wasn't enough, the game ended with a brace of spares from Berti & Rusty with 12 and 16 spares. It put the 'icing on the cake' to end proceeding and surge their total score to 370, their best ever against Evans SC in the 17 matches played at the Volly and now maybe the last as Evans have decided to move to the Brewers Arms for the remainder of the season & beyond.
